In ancient Greece, classic scientists identified matter by four elements - Fire, Water, Earth and Air. Later they added Aether - this element was the void or space between the other elements. Many cultures of the time shared similar systems for explaining the nature or behaviour of matter.
Fast forward a few thousand years to the 12-year-old me - Dungeons and Dragons - my only reality the escape from the bullies at school and where I was the master of my domain. As an elven mage wielding these very elements to slay and destroy all before me. In hindsight, I was a little too brash to be a wizard - too often I would run in headlong only to get splattered on the end of some ogre's club. Of course, during school, I learned of the periodic elements and the atomic machinations of matter.
However, when I was trying to organize my photos and preparing content for this website. The classical elements spoke to me as a way to categorize my photos. Fire for sunsets, sunrises, and well literally fire. Earth for landscapes, flora and fauna. Water for seaside photos, on-water activities, and water fountains. Air for hot air ballooning, fog, clouds, skyscapes, and eventually astrophotography. Aether, the stuff in between, the thing that binds everything element, and everything together - to me, this is family.
